Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Supreme Court said that it won't hear Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea against his arrest today and did not specify when a hearing would take place. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief moved the Supreme Court on Wednesday after his plea challenging his Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrest in connection to the liquor policy case was dismissed by the Delhi high court
Appearing on Kejriwal's behalf, senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned the case for an urgent hearing.Singhvi said the Chief Minister's "arrest and remand were based on an unreliable document supressed from us".But a bench headed by the Chief Justice of India DY Chadrachud said, "please email... we will see"We will check the mail in the afternoon. Only then will we see when it will be listed for hearing," he added.
In another setback also on Wednesday, the Rouse Avenue Court also dismissed Kejriwal's plea requesting additional time with his lawyers. The magisterial court's move came after the ED opposed the AAP chief's request, saying that he had misused his legal meetings.Kejriwal, who is currently lodged at the Tihar Jail, had sought permission for five meetings a week. As of now, he is allowed only two meetings a week. The Chief Minister's lawyers argued that there were over 30 cases against Kejriwal across different states, and one hour per week is not sufficient to understand and give instructions,To this, the ED said that once a person is in jail, their stature outside is irrelevant, and they are treated equally.
